Storms on Tuesday… Nice Mid-Week… Monday Forecast Update 4pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Monday afternoon! Our local weather has turned out very mild today, with temperatures reaching the lower to middle 70s. A south breeze continues to pump Gulf moisture northward, and this will help to enhance a good chance of rain and storms Tuesday late morning, into late afternoon.

Temperatures will remain mild tonight, with a low in the lower 60s. A breezy south wind will continue overnight, with a mainly cloudy sky. A few passing showers are possible, but widespread rain is unlikely. There is a slightly better chance of isolated showers Tuesday morning, so take the umbrella to be safe. By Tuesday midday, a line of rain and storms will be pushing into northwest Alabama. Some storms along the line could be strong, but widespread severe weather is not expected. Expect a brief bout of heavy rain and thunder, with some gusty winds possible. The line will reach northwest Alabama sometime around or just before lunch, then reach the I-59 corridor during the early afternoon hours. By sunset, storms will be well southeast of our area. Rain amounts of 1″ are likely, with a few areas of higher totals.

Wednesday and Thursday are looking really nice, with a good dose of sunshine. High pressure will slide into our area, allowing for skies to clear out and winds to remain light. Expect highs in the low 70s on Wednesday and mid 70s on Thursday. Temperatures Tuesday night and Wednesday night will dip into the 40s.

Clouds will increase on Friday, with the risk of showers at times. I don’t expect a heavy rain event on Friday, but showers are possible. Highs will top out in the low 70s on Friday. Another wave of showers will pass across the area on Saturday and Saturday night. Highs will remain in the low 70s on Saturday, dropping into the upper 60s on Sunday.
