Soaking Rain Tomorrow… Warm Days Ahead… Monday Forecast Update – 4:15pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Monday afternoon! Today has turned out incredible mild on a late February day, with most areas reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s across west and central Alabama. Temperatures will remain mild overnight, with lows dropping into the upper 50s to near 60 overnight. Clouds continue to increase, but I don’t expect any rain before midnight.

The pesky upper level low we have been watching for a few days has become much more aggressive than previously thought. Forecast model data has really ramped up the amount of rain expected for Tuesday, with a soaker likely. I do not expect any severe weather issues or flooding, but widespread rain amounts of 1/2 an inch to 1 inch are likely with this event. Rain will spread into west Alabama during the very early morning hours of Tuesday, then slowly spread east through midday. Periods of rain will continue possible into the afternoon and evening hours, but the rain intensity will decrease during the afternoon and evening.

The low will move east quickly on Thursday and our local area will become dry again. Expect highs in the middle 70s on Thursday, with a stray shower still possible. Upper level ridging will build in on Thursday and Friday, sending temperatures into the upper 70s to low 80s. In-fact, Friday could feature a day with widespread highs around 80! Expect clouds to increase Friday afternoon, with the risk of a few showers and storms Friday night into early Saturday morning. The air will turn a bit cooler over the weekend, with highs dropping back into the 60s.
