Alabama Drought Update – Friday Update #alwx @wvua23

Alabama Drought Conditions.PNG

Good Friday afternoon! Drought conditions have drastically changed since November of last year. Even though most Alabama counties are still considered under a drought, the increased rainfall has made a significant improvement. Currently, there has been approximately 8.94 inches of precipitation in Birmingham and 10.24 inches of precipitation in Tuscaloosa since the beginning of the new year. These rainfall amounts have lessened the drought severity from extreme and exceptional in many of Alabama counties to moderate and severe in fewer counties.

Additionally, most of Alabama’s lakes and rivers are roughly maximum capacity, due to the numerous rain events in the last few months. If this pattern continues on into much of spring, dry conditions will begin to diminish even further.
