Chilly Now… Warmer Weekend Ahead… Thursday Forecast Update – 4:30pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! Our local weather turned out cooler today, with a chilly north breeze. Temperatures warmed into the lower to middle 50s across most of central Alabama, with areas along and north of the HWY 278 corridor in the 40s all day. Winds will become calm tonight, with a freeze and frost across much of our local area. Expect lows between 29 and 32, under a clear sky.
The trough rapidly moves to our east by Friday and Saturday and a south wind will develop. Warmer air will spread northward on Friday, with highs in the middle 60s. We’ll reach the lower 70s on Saturday and middle 70s on Sunday. As moisture increases on Saturday, expect skies to become partly to mostly cloudy. A stray shower or two will be possible on Sunday.
A weak cold front will slide southward across central Alabama on Monday, cooling temperatures back into the upper 50s north of I-20 and low 60s south of I-20. Expect a mostly cloudy sky on Monday and a partly to mostly cloudy sky on Tuesday.
A surface low will form in the northern Gulf and spread rain into Alabama sometime Tuesday night or into the day on Wednesday. Some data has backed off on the amount of rain, but I’m still confident we’ll get a soaking out of the event at the moment. If new data continues to trim back on the coverage of rain in the days ahead, we may have to make forecast changes.
