Some Wintry Wx Possible Friday & Friday Night… Tuesday Eve Update – 10:30pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Tuesday evening! After reviewing the latest computer models coming in tonight, I wanted to make a quick update on the winter weather risk for Friday and Friday night. Above is the 0z run of the NAM and GFS. These two models have really dried out a bit in the amount of available moisture on Friday and Friday night. If these two models are correct and the trend continues, the risk of widespread snowfall accumulation would be greatly reduced.
At this time, I’ve got all of west and central Alabama highlighted in the possibility of some snow accumulation. Given the drastic changes in our computer model data over the past 24 hours, I want to encourage you to keep checking back with us for updates as more changes are likely. Hopefully, models will come into better agreement tonight and tomorrow and forecast skill and confidence will increase. Just because models have trended drier this evening does not mean we’re in the clear and will not have issues.
If we have any snow accumulation on Friday, there could be travel issues Friday night, as temperatures drop well below freezing. If no snow accumulation and this event comes in very minor, then road issues would be unlikely Friday night. Please understand this is a fluid situation and changes are very much possible.
