Cooler By Late Week… Rain at Times… Tuesday Forecast Update – 4:30pm @alwx @wvua23

Good Tuesday afternoon! A weak cold front continues to slide southeast across the state, sparking the development of showers ahead of the front. As of 4:30pm, showers have ended for our area, as the front has pushed well south of Demopolis and Clanton now. Temperatures will drop into the upper 40s for lows, under a mostly cloud sky.

Drier air tries to slip in from the northeast Wednesday morning, and there could be a little sunshine mixed in over central and north Alabama, but any sunshine that pops out will not last long. Highs will reach the upper 60s on Wednesday, with a return of a light south breeze. If clouds can actually clear Wednesday morning, expect clouds to return by early afternoon, as another cold front approaches the state. While you see the 50% rain chance for Wednesday and Thursday, most, if not all of that will occur during the night time hours Wednesday night into the pre-sunrise hours Thursday morning. Once you wake up Thursday morning, rain will be quickly moving out. Look for a decrease in clouds by Thursday afternoon, as chilly air moves in.

Highs on Friday will only reach the lower 50s, under a partly to mostly sunny sky. Clouds increase by early Saturday morning, with a good chance of rain developing by late afternoon on Saturday. Rain will continue on and off through New Year’s Eve Saturday night and into New Year’s Day on Sunday. There will be breaks in the rain, but a good soaking is expected. Rain may actually continue into Monday as well, as the cold front will be very slow to arrive. At this time, severe weather appears unlikely over the weekend. Rain amounts between the system Wednesday night and the weekend rain event will approach 2 to 4 inches.
