No Christmas Sweaters Needed This Weekend…Friday Evening Update 5p.m.

Good Friday evening! Temperatures today left many probably wondering how Christmas is actually this weekend since we were so warm. Tonight, scattered showers will develop in northwest Alabama, sparking the chance for some rain for areas north of Tuscaloosa and west of the I-65 line. The rest of the state, not just central Alabama, will continue to see increasing cloud cover overnight. Those clouds will last into Christmas Eve, Saturday, throughout most of the day. Despite the cloud cover, temperatures in most parts of central Alabama will be very warm in the lower 70’s for highs.
By Christmas Day, the majority of clouds will be gone for us here in Alabama. With the loss of those clouds, temperatures will be able to further warm-up, into the mid 70’s. It may be a good idea to pass on the Christmas sweaters!
Next work week will be a gradual cool down from this weekend. Temperatures will still be in the 70’s Monday but an approaching trough from the west will slowly try and make its way into Alabama before stalling. That will provide the opportunity for a few stray showers for Monday and Tuesday. A stronger trough behind the initial one will help push through later Wednesday, and into the day on Thursday. The arrival of the stronger front Wednesday will spark a greater chance for showers both days, along with a few thunderstorms. Once that system is gone, cooler (or at least average) temperatures return to Alabama with sunny skies.
