Cold Air is Here! Thursday Forecast Update – 5:15pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday evening! The cold air is here, with temperatures remaining in the 40s all day. With a brisk north wind, wind chill values in the 30s all day. Now the sun has set, temperatures will continue to drop quickly overnight. Look for lows in the lower to middle 20s tonight, under a clearing sky. Winds will remain out of the north at 5 to 10mph, so frost is unlikely tonight.
Friday and Saturday will feature sunny skies, with highs in the 40s. Temperatures will be well below freezing tonight and Friday night, with lower 20s expected. Lows will dip into the lower 30s Saturday night, under a clear sky. A surface high will gradually move to our northeast, allowing for the next system to approach Alabama Sunday and Monday.
Clouds increase on Sunday, and I expect the risk of a few showers by Sunday evening or Sunday night. Highs will top out in the upper 50s on Sunday and low 60s on Monday and Tuesday, so wintry weather will not happen with this event. Expect a good chance of showers on Monday, with a few showers possible on Tuesday as well. By Wednesday, another wave of showers will move across the area, with very cold air making a return by Thursday and Friday of next week.
