Good Monday afternoon! It has been a very gloomy and wet day across the state, with periods of rain and thunder state-wide. As of 3:45pm, rain is falling over nearly all of Alabama, with stronger storms closer to the coast. Severe weather is not expected in our area through tonight. The main mass of rain will likely move to the east early tonight, with on and off showers and downpours through the rest of tonight. Temperatures will remain very steady overnight, with most areas in the lower 50s all night.
Showers move out early Tuesday, as the weak surface low and upper air shortwave moves off to the northeast. Temperatures will remain in the 50s all day, with a cool and damp feel to the air. Expect skies to remain mostly cloudy through Wednesday, with a southwest flow aloft and an old surface boundary over south Alabama.
A very deep upper air trough will dig across the central US on Thursday, sending a strong cold front into Alabama. With limited moisture available, I do not expect a lot of rain. A few showers are possible Thursday morning, but widespread rain is unlikely. Temperatures will only top out in the mid 40s on Thursday. Temperatures Thursday night and Friday night will dip into the lower to middle 20s. A few spots could hit the upper teens across north Alabama. Look for plenty of sunshine on Friday and Saturday.
A weak upper level disturbance will kick off some clouds and a few showers late on Sunday and during the day Monday. Temperatures will be too warm for wintry weather by that time…
