Rain to Start the Work Week?..Saturday Evening Update~ 7p.m.

Good Saturday evening! It was a nice day of weather, especially for football with the Iron Bowl taking place here in Tuscaloosa. Temepratures were between the upper 50’s and lower 60’s, so a chilly afternoon for most. The good news was, lots of sun helped out with trying to make things feel a little warmer. Tonight, expect another cool evening with lows in the 30’s: keep the jacket handy! Skies will remain clear so expect some patchy frost for the early morning hours.

Sunday will tap off the weekend remaining clear with a slight warm up as well. Southerly flow will pull in warmer air from the south so highs will actually start to get into the upper 60’s, close to the 70’s. A warmer day for Sunday will result in a warmer Sunday night, going into the beginning of the work week.

Monday looks to bring something Alabama has struggled to get for the past two months: RAIN! Monday will start off dry, along with some sun. As the day progresses, clouds will start to build. A squal line will arrive late in the afternoon, likely after 6p.m. As of now, some stronger storms are expected with the incoming line; however, anything severe is very low. The biggest risk comes from strong winds over 60 mph. A big factor with the incoming system will be when the line decides to start breaking down and how fast. Some models right now are wanting to weaken the system as it moves through Alabama; that means, west Alabama will see the greater opportunity for rain than east Alabama, along with greater rainfall totals. Overall, the system is more than worth keeping a close eye on.

After Monday, Tuesday will see the line of showers and storms coming to an end in the morning. After the rain ends, skies will try to clear out and parts of Alabama will see some sunshine. the coldfront will still not have passed, so highs will be fairly warm.

Wednesday brings round two of the odd liquid stuff for the state. A secondary low that will develop off of the original line of storms from Monday will pull in moisture from the gulf and feed showers that will move in from the southwest. Rain totals across the state are hard to call because the location of the low and how soon it develops will determine how far moisture will be pushed into the state.

After Wednesday, the rest of the forecast stabilizes, sunshine returns, and average temperatures settle in for Thursday, Friday, and on into the weekend.
