Good Monday evening! Our local weather has turned chilly again after sunset, with temperatures likely reaching the upper 30s to low 40s area-wide overnight. Skies remain clear as of 9:30pm, so get out and check out the supermoon tonight. Clouds will gradually increase late tonight in response to a weak upper air disturbance moving into the area. A few sprinkles are possible over west Alabama late tonight or on Tuesday. Most spots will simply notice an increase in clouds. Highs will top out in the low 70s on Tuesday.
Upper air ridging builds in on Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the upper 70s to near 80. Skies will be sunny on Wednesday and Thursday. A very deep upper air trough will dig across the central US Friday, sending a strong cold front into Alabama Friday night. Moisture will be limited with the front, but a few showers are possible Friday night and early Saturday morning. Based off the latest forecast model data, it is unlikely we get a widespread beneficial rain; however, it is possible we get a little rain in parts of our area. The best chance of getting a little rain will occur over northwest Alabama, with very low rain chances southeast of I-59 or south of Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Gadsden.
Much colder air will take over on Saturday and Sunday. Lows will drop into the upper 30s Saturday night and low 30s Sunday night. A widespread freeze and frost is likely Sunday night according to our latest forecast data. Highs will only top out in the 50s on Sunday and Monday.
