Good Friday afternoon! It’s amazing the difference a day makes, as a much cooler airmass has taken over the deep south. A cold front that brought the scattered showers yesterday is well to our south, and a breezy north wind has transported cool Fall air into our area. Once the sun sets, temperatures will rapidly drop into the 50s, with a low in the low 40s by sunrise tomorrow morning. Highs will only reach the low 70s on Saturday, under a sunny sky. Temperatures Saturday night may reach the upper 30s in some areas near or north of I-20. Sunday morning will be the coolest morning of the Fall season.
The upper air trough will gradually retreat northeast, allowing for a slow warming trend to end the weekend and start of next week. Highs will warm into the upper 70s on Sunday, followed by low 80s each day next week. Given dewpoints will remain low, we can expect mild days and cool nights for most of next week. A weak surface front will zip by the state next Thursday, but it appears widespread rain is unlikely. I’ve added a 10% risk of a stray light shower along the front Thursday.
Alabama takes on Texas A&M on Saturday in Tuscaloosa. At 2:30pm, kickoff, expect temperatures to be in the lower 70s under a sunny sky. Temperatures will drop into the lower 60s by the end of the game.
Auburn takes on Arkansas on Saturday in Auburn. Temperatures will drop into the 50s for that game, as it’s later in the evening hours.
Talladega Race Weekend will feature very nice days, under a sunny sky. Temperatures at night will be much cooler, so don’t forget the jackets. Tonight and Saturday night temperatures will range in the upper 30s to lower 40s.
