Few Storms Possible Ahead… Hot Temps… Monday Forecast Update – 4pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Monday afternoon! Our local weather has turned out hot across central and north Alabama, with most communities in the lower 90s. Areas near or south of HWY 80 have been in the clouds for a good chunk of the day, keeping temperatures a little cooler there. A frontal boundary is stalled across southern portions of central Alabama, with a good dose of storms south of that boundary. A few isolated storms are still possible across the rest of central Alabama this evening, but I expect most areas to remain rain-free. Expect temperatures to gradually fall into the 70s overnight, with a few foggy areas, especially south of I-20.

Expect a few scattered afternoon storms to develop on Tuesday, but not everyone will get rain. If you get a storm, it will likely be the quick-hitting type that doesn’t last long. The risk of rain on Tuesday is at 30%. By Wednesday and Thursday, a weak upper air ridge will develop over the area, reducing the rain chance to 20%. I can’t rule out a passing afternoon shower or storm, but most of you will not get rain.

A weakening frontal boundary will drift in from the north Friday through the weekend, allowing rain chances to increase a good bit. I do not expect an all weekend rain event, but some of you may get a passing downpour or two. Highs will back down into the upper 80s, due to extra clouds and some passing storms. Expect lows to remain in the lower 70s.

Tropical Storm Ian has formed in the central Atlantic, but that system will not impact land, as it remains over the open Atlantic, moving north.
