More Scattered Storms Likely Ahead… Tropics Heating Up… Monday Forecast Update – 4:15pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Monday afternoon! It’s another hot and muggy day, with a good number of scattered storms moving northward across the state. At 4:15pm, a line of storms was approaching the Tuscaloosa area from the south. Storms will diminish on radar after sunset, as the air temperature cools a bit. If you get a storm today, it will not last over an hour at your house before moving on. Expect lows to dip into the middle 70s overnight.

Tuesday will feature a day similar to today, with the risk of scattered afternoon and evening storms, otherwise hot and humid. Highs will reach the lower 90s, with a heat index approaching 100.

An upper air trough will gradually dig across the central US and the ridge nearby will weaken. Several upper level disturbances will move across Alabama Wednesday through Saturday, bringing the risk of scattered showers and storms at any time. Rain chances will really ramp up towards the end of the week and into the weekend, with most areas getting a downpour or two. It will not rain all day everyday this week, but there is a good chance you get a downpour that could last an hour or so. The rain chances bump up to 50% on Wednesday and then 60% Thursday through next Sunday.

The tropics are about to increase in activity; in-fact, one wave in the far east Atlantic has a good chance of becoming a tropical storm in the next couple of days, as it moves west northwest. Chances are this one will turn out to sea, but other waves will move off of Africa in the coming days, and each one has a chance of developing into a tropical storm. You will likely notice a quick uptick in tropical systems over the coming weeks, however, there is nothing immediately approaching the US.
