Hot and Steamy Afternoons; Scattered Storms Still in Forecast

It was yet another warm and steamy afternoon here in Central Alabama, and it doesn’t appear that there will be a break from the rainy, hot pattern we are in anytime soon. Temperatures this week will top out near 90 most days, with high temps cooling into the upper 80s by the end of the week. Scattered storms will be possible every day this week, but the best chances for rain will be towards the middle and end of the week. Rainfall totals for the week will vary, but most spots will receive more than an inch.

A good bit of West Alabama saw rain this afternoon, with some spots near the Mississippi state line receiving nearly an inch. East of I-65, rain coverage was much more sparse.

Tropics: A tropical wave in the far eastern Atlantic has piqued the interest of the National Hurricane Center. It may organize a bit over the next day or so, but is not in overly hospitable conditions to tropical development. We will monitor this system closely as we head towards the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season.

I thought I would leave you this evening with a shot of the Alabama sunset from atop Bryant-Denny Stadium here on the campus of the University of Alabama. Have a great week!
