A good Thursday afternoon to everybody! It’s Hunter in the WVUA 23 weather center today filling in for Richard. At the time of this update we are watching a pretty good coverage of scattered showers, especially across west Alabama as you can see on the radar image below. These showers have helped to keep the heat in check with temperatures this afternoon only in the mid and upper 80s.

THE REST OF THIS AFTERNOON: Expect scattered downpours through the remainder of this afternoon with the showers gradually diminishing through the late afternoon and early evening. By 8 or 9 0’clock tonight most of the wet weather should be over for central Alabama, although a few stray showers cannot be ruled out. Skies this evening remain mostly cloudy as overnight lows drop in to the mid and upper 70s.

TOMORROW: Get ready for more scattered showers for tomorrow afternoon as we will forecast about a 50 percent coverage of showers and storms. Highs tomorrow afternoon remain in the upper 80s with a partly sunny to mostly cloudy sky.

YOUR WEEKEND FORECAST: Expect little change in the forecast as we head in to the weekend. Saturday we will continue the trend of scattered downpours with afternoon highs in the upper 80s. Sunday will begin a small warming trend, however, as afternoon highs increase slightly to the lower 90s with reduced rain chances.

AN EARLY LOOK AT NEXT WEEK: As of right now it looks like the same old song and dance for the beginning of next week with lower 90s for afternoon highs and slightly above average rain chances.

THE TROPICS: The tropics remain quiet for now with no development expected over at least the next 48 hours.

Join us live on WVUA23 weekdays at 5, 6 and 10:00 P.M. and weekends at 10PM for the very latest on your news, weather and sports.

Have a great Thursday!

Hunter Williams
