Scattered Storms Remain Likely… Tuesday Forecast Update – 4pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Tuesday afternoon! Our local weather has turned out mild and muggy today, with a good coverage of scattered showers and storms. As promised, it has not been an all day type of rain; in-fact, most of you have had less than 1 hour worth of rain today. The risk of scattered showers and storms will gradually lessen this evening and tonight, but I can’t rule out an overnight shower or storm. Expect patchy fog overnight, under a partly to mostly cloudy sky.

Wednesday through Friday will feature a good chance of scattered showers and storms. Again, I do not expect a rain event all day long. You may get an hour of rain at your house before storms end. With the deep layer of tropical moisture in place, showers and storms will dump very heavy amounts of rain in a short period of time. An upper level low and weak surface low continues to bring the elevated rain chance, which is perfect to help relieve a summer drought.

Models are giving us a tough time for the weekend. It now appears that the risk of rain is a bit lower for the weekend, however, I still expect some storms in the area. If you have outdoor plans over the weekend, keep checking back on the forecast incase of any sudden changes. A change in the position of the front and track of the surface low would mean the difference between a few pop up storms and a heavy rain event.

The tropics remain quiet and development is unlikely over the next few days.
