Hot Days… Scattered Storms… Thursday Forecast Update -4:25pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Thursday afternoon! It has been another very hot day across Alabama, with a few scattered storms drifting across the state. The risk of a few scattered storms will diminish after sunset this evening, with lows dropping into the middle 70s.

The upper air ridge expands our way a bit on Friday, causing temperatures to go up and the heat index to approach 107 in many communities. The heat advisory today is set to expire this evening, but I wouldn’t be shocked if a new heat advisory was re-issued for Friday.

The risk of a few scattered showers and storms will increase some this weekend, but I don’t expect a deal where it rains all weekend, and some spots will actually miss out on the rain. Highs will reach the middle 90s on Saturday and Sunday. The best chance of a passing storm will happen during the afternoon and evening.

Next week, we’ll be under the influence of a weak upper air disturbance over the northern Gulf. Rain chances may actually be confined to areas south of I-20 on Monday, but I haven’t removed all rain chance from the forecast. As the disturbance moves north, I expect the risk of scattered storms to increase on Tuesday through Thursday of next week.

Earl is no longer a hurricane, as that system has moved over Belize and into Mexico. Earl is quickly weakening as it interacts with friction from land… The rest of the tropical basin is quiet at the moment, but I expect more action soon….
