Hot Days… Scattered PM Storms… Monday Forecast Update – 4pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Monday afternoon! It has turned out to be a hot and muggy day across the state, with a mix of sun and clouds and a few scattered afternoon storms. As of 4:30pm, there are a good number of scattered storms south of I-20, with isolated storms to the north of I-20. All storms are moving in a south direction and are producing lots of lightning. If you are outside of the scattered storms, temperatures are very hot. At 4pm, the heat index was 100 in Tuscaloosa and 107 in Jasper! Expect the risk of scattered storms to end after sunset, with temperatures dropping into the middle 70s overnight.

Tomorrow through the weekend will feature identical weather every day. Look for the risk of a passing afternoon storm or two, with hot and muggy conditions. We’ll be on the edge of a subtropical ridge, with slightly more unstable air over Alabama. This is typically a favorable position to get a good number of scattered storms to pop up as the afternoon heating kicks in. I do not expect everyone to get rain every day this week, but some of you will get a passing downpour or two. It will not rain all day…. This is the quick hitting type of storms that last less than 1 hour. Expect highs in the middle 90s each afternoon, with lows in the middle 70s.

We are watching a tropical system become better organized over the Caribbean this afternoon. There is a high chance this becomes Tropical Storm Earl this afternoon or tonight. All models move this into the Yucatan in 2 days from now, with no US impact expected. I’ll post the details as soon as the system is named…
