Hot Temps Now… Storms Ahead… Thursday Forecast Update – 4pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Thursday afternoon! Our local weather has been very hot today, with most areas reaching the middle to upper 90s. Heat index have topped 100 across all of central Alabama this afternoon. Expect temperatures to slowly drop into the 80s after sunset, with lows in the middle 70s at sunrise Friday morning. The current upper air ridge responsible for the hot temperatures and rain free conditions will remain in place through Friday. While the risk of an afternoon storm is not at 0 on Friday, the chance of any one spot getting a quick storm is only at 10%.

The ridge will weaken fast over the weekend, and a disturbance will bring the risk of scattered showers and storms on Saturday and Sunday. Models continue to hint at Sunday being the higher rain chance day, but I still expect a decent coverage of scattered storms on Saturday. Keep in mind, it will not rain all weekend and some of you may miss out on the rain. The chance of scattered storms will remain rather high though Monday, before decreasing to 30% for the rest of next week.

The tropics remain quiet…
