Severe T-storm Watch Likely to be Issued Soon! Friday Update – Noon #alwx @wvua23

Good midday to you on this Friday! The Storm Prediction Center will likely issue a severe thunderstorm watch for all of west and central Alabama this afternoon, as storms develop in an extremely unstable airmass. A weak surface front and upper air disturbance will trigger storm development this afternoon. The main risk is damaging wind, with some hail also possible. The damaging wind will likely be confined to more of wet microbursts, which are localized damaging winds from an intense downdraft of a thunderstorm. If storms can organize into clusters this afternoon, then strait-line winds will also be possible on a larger scale. Best chance of severe thunderstorms will occur between 2pm and 9pm.

Be alert this afternoon incase a severe storm moves into your area. Either way, with extreme instability like this, storms will produce an incredible amount of lightning. Go indoors if you hear thunder…

The tropics are quiet for the moment…
