Dry Days Ahead… Tropical Update… Monday Forecast Update – 4:25pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Monday afternoon! The latest info is in from the National Hurricane Center, and Tropical Storm Colin is nearing the Florida big bend at this hour. Colin will likely make landfall in the next hour or two east of Panama City. Winds are sustained at 50mph, with a movement to the north northeast at 23mph. Keep in mind, the strongest winds are well east of the center, under the stronger thunderstorms. The center is totally convection free at this time…

The image above shows the center of the storm at 4pm and the thunderstorms associated with the center. Notice how all of the deep convection is well east of the center… This is due to strong west and southwesterly wind shear. As wind shear continues, Colin will not have a chance to become very well organized. This is mainly a big rain maker for Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. Wind is not a big issue with Colin…

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Our local weather will feature a break from the humidity over the next few days, as dewpoints drop. Expect highs to reach the upper 80s to near 90 on Tuesday through Thursday, with lows in the lower 60s at night. It will feel nice during the early morning or late evening through Thursday. There is no risk of rain Tuesday through Saturday, as the air remains dry

Gulf air will begin to retreat northward this weekend. Overnight temperatures will warm into the lower 70s, with afternoon highs in the middle 90s. I don’t expect any rain chances on Saturday, but a stray summer-like storm is possible on Sunday. The risk of widespread rain is not expected this weekend.

Models suggest rain chances will increase next week, but given it’s 7 to 8 days out, forecast confidence remains low at this time.
