Hot Weather Continues; Rain Returns

Happy Memorial Day, everyone. High pressure has built in across the eastern half of the country leaving those of us here in Alabama with warm, humid weather, and little relief from any rain. This pattern will continue in the short term, with highs in the low 90s and cool, comfortable evenings through Wednesday. However, that ridge of high pressure will begin to break down later in the week, and by Thursday several pulses of energy will enter the state, giving us better rain chances, more cloud cover, and lower temperatures. These pulses of energy aren’t going to produce widespread, heavy rain. Instead, they will just increase the coverage of small, scattered showers and storms. I expect most areas to receive less than an inch of rain over the week. With portions of Alabama starting to flirt with drought conditions, a good soaking rain would be beneficial. Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be in the cards, at least not in the near future.
