Tropical Depression Two Forms (8:40PM 5/27/2016)

The National Hurricane Center has initiated advisories on Tropical Depression Two, located in the western Atlantic Ocean east of Florida. The system will likely become a tropical storm in the hours or days ahead before a potential U.S. landfall along the South Carolina coast.

NHC expects the system to intensify, but only slightly. Maximum sustained winds are near 35mph right now. Maximum winds are forecast to reach 45mph by tomorrow (Saturday, May 28) before landfall.

Hurricane Alex happened in January in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, well away from land. If Tropical Depression Two intensifies into a tropical storm, it will be deemed Tropical Storm Bonnie.

We’ll be closely monitoring this system… No direct effects are likely for Alabama.

Join me tonight for WVUA23 News at 10 for the very latest on this system.
