Warm Days Continue… Some Rain & Storms Ahead… Wednesday Forecast Update – 4pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Wednesday afternoon! It has turned out to be a very warm day across the state, with upper 70s to lower 80s a common number this afternoon. Skies remain mostly cloudy today, with a few periods of sunshine. A weakening upper air ridge over the southeast is lifting out, as a very weak upper air disturbance moves in from the west. There are storms on radar along the Mississippi River this afternoon, but I don’t expect rain in our area for the next 12 hours.

Skies remain mostly cloudy tonight, with temperatures gradually dropping into the 60s by 10pm. Lows will reach the upper 50s just before sunrise tomorrow morning. Moisture will really increase tonight and on Thursday, so you’ll notice the change in humidity.

Showers and storms will develop and move across our area sometime around or just after lunch on Thursday. Since storms will be scattered, there’s not a good start/stop time we can give you. Just know, a passing downpour could move over your area from time to time between noon Thursday and noon Friday. Rain amounts with this system will range from 1/2 an inch to 1 inch. Flooding and severe weather is not expected.

An upper air ridge will build into the area over the weekend, sending temperatures back into the lower 80s. Look for a mostly sunny sky this weekend.

Next week looks rather challenging, as models are having a tough time of the progression of our next rain maker. There is evidence of a severe weather risk setting up over the central US early next week. We’ll have to watch that feature carefully, but models continue to keep the ridge over us too strong for severe weather issues our way…
