2:15pm Update: Severe Risk Limited Through 9pm… #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday early afternoon! As of 2:15pm, a large and severe complex of storms has formed over deep south Alabama and extends southwest off the Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coast. These storms are blocking the inflow of instability into central Alabama, which in tern is reducing our severe weather risk significantly for the rest of the afternoon. Unfortunately, our friends near the coast and into deep south Alabama are taking a nasty beating with the severe storms.

There is still some chance additional storms could form over west and central Alabama between 4pm and 9pm, and we’ll maintain a low end risk of those becoming strong to severe as they track east. The main risk with any additional storms that form this afternoon and evening will be from damaging wind, hail and lightning. A spin-up tornado can’t be ruled out between 4pm and 9pm, but the risk is low. To be safe, stay alert through 9pm tonight, or until we can give everyone an all clear. While the risk is lower, it’s still important to pay attention to weather updates for the rest of the day.

We will be on TV on WVUA non-stop during tornado warnings for all of west, central and east Alabama in the Birmingham TV market area. We can be heard live on Moody Radio 88.9fm in the Tuscaloosa/Birmingham area, 89.5fm in the Selma area, 91.9fm in the Dixons Mills area if you lose power.

Join us live on WVUA23 weekdays at 5, 6 and 10:00 P.M. and weekends at 10PM for the very latest on your news, weather and sports.
