Frost Tonight… Strong Storms on Thursday… Monday Forecast Update – 4pm #alwx @wvua23

FREEZE FROST Risk Areas new.png

Good Monday afternoon! After a cold start to the day, conditions turned out beautiful this afternoon. However, it will be turning cold again tonight. With a surface high over the state, dry air, clear skies, calm winds and a deep upper air trough across the east, expect a frost and freeze risk for much of our area. Lows in west Alabama will dip into the lower to middle 30s, with the risk of a frost. Areas east of I-65 could dip below the freezing mark, with a more widespread frost across east Alabama.

The forecast includes a fast warm-up on Tuesday, with highs approaching 70 degrees. Lows will modify into the middle to upper 40s by Tuesday night. A south wind will transport warm and moist air into the state on Wednesday, and you’ll notice a few clouds around the area. Highs will reach the lower 70s on Wednesday.

A strong storm system will bring a batch of showers and storms to the area on Thursday. Some storms could grow strong and possibly severe on Thursday. Models are not overly aggressive in the amount of instability with this system, however, we need to keep an eye on any forecasting changes.

The air will turn a bit cooler by Friday, with highs in the middle 60s. Skies will become sunny on Friday, with increasing clouds again on Saturday. The weather as we go into Easter Weekend will be mild, but showers and storms will become likely on Sunday, as a system moves in from the west. At this time, severe weather appears unlikely, but we’ll keep an eye on any changes.
