Showers and Storms Continue, Sunny Skies Next Week! – Friday Afternoon Update, 3/18/2016 (3:40pm)

Good Friday afternoon!  Scattered showers and storms continue this afternoon across Central Alabama.  Some storms could be on the stronger side with gusty winds up to 50 mph and smaller sized hail; in fact, a few  storms closer to the Mississippi/Alabama border, south of US 278, could receive a severe thunderstorm warning because of even stronger winds and possibly bigger hail.  As we begin to lose our daytime heating, these storms will gradually decrease in intensity.  Overnight, the rain showers stick around with possibly a few rumbles of thunder.  Temperatures tonight will be cool, but not as cool as we have seen the past few nights as lows are expected to be in the mid to upper 50s.  Tomorrow, rain decreases and stops across most of Alabama, before returning by the afternoon as a cold front passes through.  Temperatures will be on the cooler side due to the clouds and rain, as highs are expected to be in the low 60s.

Sunday, the front has finished passing and clear weather returns.  Skies will be clearing throughout the day with temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s.  Winds out of the northwest will be breezy, around 10-15 mph, making it feel a bit cooler.  Overnight Sunday and into Monday morning, some patchy frost will be possible as temperatures drop into the low 30s with very little wind.  Make sure to bring in those sensitive plants!

The sunny skies will stay with us for the beginning of the workweek, with highs in the lower 60s on Monday, and then warming up as we head into Tuesday, as temperatures get back into the low and mid 70s.

Late in the week, another storm system will being moving in from the west, which could set us up with another round of showers and storms on Friday.

Have a great evening!
