Rain Ending Today… Nice Weekend Ahead… Thursday Forecast Update – 3pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! It has turned out to be a messy day, with lots of rain and chilly temperatures. We started off this morning with some areas seeing a few sleet pellets before quickly changing to rain. There were even a few reports of snow flakes mixed in over in portions of east and northeast Alabama before midday. As of 3pm, rain continues for a good portion of west and central Alabama, but rain is gradually ending in areas northwest of I-59. Rain will continue to end from northwest to southeast during the late afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will remain steady for most of the night, and some fog is possible overnight.

We will gradually clear out on Friday, especially during the mid to late morning hours, with mostly sunny conditions during the afternoon. Highs will approach 60 on Friday, with lows dipping into the upper 30s Friday night.

The weekend forecast is looking very nice, with highs in the upper 60s and plenty of sunshine. Some spots south of HWY 80 could touch 70 degrees over the weekend. Lows will gradually modify some over the weekend, but you’ll continue to notice a cool feel to the air Saturday night and Sunday night.

Next week, a south wind will take over and ridging will build over Alabama. We can expect a nice warming trend as we approach Monday and Tuesday. Highs will reach the lower 70s on Monday and middle to upper 70s by Tuesday. Clouds will increase by mid week, with some rain and storms approaching late in the week. Model data has been all over the board on the system next week, so confidence in a severe weather setup is low. We’ll keep an eye on it for sure…

Soggy Start to Thursday…Thursday Morning Update 3/3/16 6:25

Don’t be alarmed to hear some rumbles of thunder starting this Thursday morning for portions of west Alabama. A band of showers and storms are currently tracking across the state, providing a nice amount of precipitation, along with some lightning and breezy winds at the head of the storms.

Rain will move through the state from west to east, so areas in west Alabama will start to dry out first later this evening, while eastern Alabama will see rain just arriving later this morning.

You’re probably going to want to grab that rain gear while running out the door!
