Storms Now… Cooler Wednesday… Showery Thursday… Tuesday Forecast Update – 3pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Tuesday afternoon! At 3pm, storms continue to increase across the area from northwest to southeast. Expect some storms to become strong and perhaps severe this afternoon and early evening before ending quickly after sunset. Damaging wind and hail would be the main issue with any strong to severe storms this afternoon and early evening. The tornado risk is really low with this event. Rain amounts will range from 0.50″ to 1.50″. Skies will remain mostly cloudy overnight, with temperatures dropping into the lower 40s after midnight, as a cold front moves south of us.

Wednesday will feature lots of sunshine, with highs in the upper 50s to near 60. Expect cooler air compared to today’s weather, however, conditions will be far from cold. Wednesday will be an in-between day, as the weather will rapidly change again by Thursday.

A weak surface low will pick up moisture on Thursday and produce a good coverage of showers during the day on Thursday. Heavy rain is unlikely, but I do expect a good soaking at times. That system will move east of our area by Friday, with a rapid return of sunshine. Highs on Friday will top out in the upper 50s north of I-20 and lower 60s south of I-20.

The weekend forecast is looking great, with cool nights and warmer afternoons. We’ll top out in the upper 60s on Saturday with low 70s likely on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Overnight lows will remain cool over the weekend, but I don’t expect it to get cool enough for frost issues…
