Slight Risk of Severe Wx This Afternoon… Tuesday Update – 8am #alwx @wvua23

Good Tuesday morning! Our local weather is quiet this morning, so get out and vote now before storms arrive this afternoon. At this point, I can say this is not a major severe weather risk this afternoon. The parameters only support the risk of isolated severe issues, but I want you to be weather alert as we move into the afternoon, incase a severe storm moves into your area.

What to expect: All of west and central Alabama is in a slight risk of severe weather this afternoon, with the main risks involving isolated damaging wind, isolated hail. I can’t rule out a stray tornado somewhere across the state today, but the placement of the surface low and surface wind direction and relatively low dewpoint for early March will limit the risk of tornadoes today.

What time: Storms will enter far northwest Alabama sometime around noon, then spread southeast through the afternoon. Areas around Cullman, Jasper, Fayette, Tuscaloosa, Livingston, Greensboro, and Birmingham will deal with these storms between 2pm and 8pm. East Alabama, around Gadsden, Anniston, Talladega, Lineville and Clanton will deal with these storms generally between 5pm and 9pm. Keep in mind, that time-frame is when your area is in the window of opportunity for strong to severe storms. You will not have severe weather during that entire window… See the map above for the risk area and time-frame.
