Warmer Days! Rain Next Week… Wednesday Forecast Update – 3pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Wednesday afternoon! If you look out the window this afternoon, it looks like a pretty spring day. Temperatures are close to average, but air temperatures will be warming a good bit as the week comes to an end and the weekend begins. The upper air trough over the area now is rapidly moving northeast. An upper air ridge will replace the trough, allowing for warmer air to return to the state. Expect chilly temperatures again tonight, with lows in the middle 30s. A few of the typical cooler spots north of I-20 may hit the freezing mark, but most areas will remain above freezing.

Highs will warm into the upper 60s along and south of I-20 on Thursday, with middle 60s to the north. Skies will be sunny on Thursday and Friday. As the airmass continues to modify, we’ll warm into the lower 70s on Friday and remain in the lower 70s for highs through the weekend.

A storm system will be developing to our west as the weekend begins, and that will allow moist air to advect into the state. As moisture increases, clouds will also increase. There could be a shower or two on Sunday, mainly north of I-20. By Monday, a weak front and surface low will slowly move into the area. This will spread lots of rain over Alabama on Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will gradually cool on Monday and especially by Tuesday and Wednesday, as colder air blows into the state from the northwest.
