Cool Air For Now… Very Warm & Wet Christmas Week…Thursday Forecast Update – 4pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! After a damp start to the day, conditions this afternoon have dried out nicely. Sunshine has returned to most of Alabama as of 4pm, but a few spots remain in the clouds. All areas will become clear this evening and tonight. Expect chilly temperatures overnight, with low to middle 30s area wide. Some frost is possible tonight, but mainly in the protected areas. A light wind will prevent a major frost tonight.

A surface high will track over Alabama Friday and Saturday. Expect lots of sunshine, with highs in the lower 50s on Friday, then upper 50s on Saturday. A freeze/frost is expected Saturday morning, as lows fall into the upper 20s to near 30.

A southeast surface wind will develop as the high moves to our east, and upper air through moves to our east. Highs will warm into the lower 60s on Sunday, with a slow increase in clouds late in the day.

Christmas week is looking like a mess. Expect several waves of rain and storms, starting Monday and lasting through Thursday. While it will not rain the entire time, I expect mainly cloudy skies and occasional showers and storms. We will also be on the look out for any risk of severe weather. If that happens, it would more than likely occur Tuesday or Wednesday. Models are giving us very conflicting solutions on the mid-week system. At this point, I can’t pinpoint a specific risk or risk date. Just be aware that there could be some active weather at some point towards the middle of next week. Keep checking back in with us for updates incase we deal with a threat. Rain amounts will become impressive in many areas next week, and we will have to keep an eye on any risk of flooding.
