Rain & Cooler Air Ahead… Monday Forecast Update – 4pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Monday afternoon! It was a very warm final day of November, with temperatures reaching the middle 70s in most locations, as we continue south of the frontal boundary. Very moist air is pooling up across our area, and that will serve as fuel for occasional rain tonight through Wednesday. The highest coverage of showers today has continued across northwest Alabama, close to the stationary front. As the front slowly drifts southeast, showers will increase across the rest of central Alabama late tonight and on Tuesday. Temperatures will remain mild tonight, with most areas in the middle 60s all night. While fog isn’t expected to become widespread, I wouldn’t be shocked if some areas deal with fog late tonight.

Uplift from the front and advancing upper air trough will spread a batch of occasional rain or showers over our area on Tuesday. Rain rates will be light to moderate, as uplift will remain weak. Expect a cloudy sky on Tuesday and Wednesday. A small disturbance will develop in the base of the trough and move across Alabama Tuesday night into Wednesday, enhancing the coverage of rain a bit. Most areas will pick up 1″ of rain between tonight and what falls on Tuesday and Wednesday. There could be some higher amounts approaching 2″, especially in northeast Alabama. Temperatures will gradually fall from northwest to southeast tomorrow afternoon and evening, as the cooler air slowly takes over. Our area will remain in the 50s all day on Wednesday, with occasional rain. Rain will end from northwest to southeast during the afternoon hours on Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday will feature cooler days, with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the middle to upper 30s. Skies will remain sunny on Thursday morning and Friday morning. We’ll warm back into the lower 60s on Saturday and Sunday, which is close to normal for this time of the year. Clouds will increase Sunday night, with the risk of some showers on Monday of next week.
