High Rain Chances Ahead… Cooler Temperatures… Thursday Forecast Update – 4pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! It’s been another warm day across Alabama, with temperatures reaching the lower 80s across much of the state. Some sun has mixed out this afternoon, with skies becoming partly cloudy. The extra sun this afternoon has allowed temperatures to really become warm. The risk of rain this evening is very low, but a quick sprinkle or shower is possible. Temperatures tonight will drop into the upper 60s for lows. Expect some patchy fog again tonight, but I don’t expect overly widespread fog.

The first half of Friday will be dry, but a few scattered showers and storms will fire up during the afternoon and evening hours. Expect a good chance of rain Friday night, as uplift increases across the area. A weak cold front will slowly track through the state on Saturday, which will keep temperatures a bit cooler. Highs will only top out in the upper 60s on Saturday, under a cloudy sky. Expect rain for much of the day, with some locally heavy rain near and north of I-20. Rain will continue through Saturday evening and Saturday night before coming to an end after midnight.

Alabama takes on LSU in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. It’s a late evening game, and I expect rain to remain in place through kickoff. I would highly recommend packing the rain gear, as model data continues to suggest some rain at times through the game.

A few light showers are still possible on Sunday, but the risk of rain is rather low. The upper air trough now looks to cut off into an upper level low across the area on Monday, so we have introduced a chance of light showers on Monday, with a high near 60. Monday will be a chilly and mainly cloudy day.

Finally, the system lifts out by Tuesday, and we’ll notice more sunshine breaking out. Highs will warm into the lower 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
