Rain by Late Weekend… Friday Forecast Update – 3:30pm #alwx

Good Friday afternoon! It has turned out to be a beautiful, yet cool winter day across Alabama. Temperatures have reached the mid 50s for areas near and south of Tuscaloosa, with lower 50s to the northeast of Tuscaloosa. Expect a rapid drop in temperatures this evening and tonight. We’ll fall into the lower 40s by 7pm, then upper 30s at 10pm and the freezing mark shortly after midnight. Lows on average will fall into the upper 20s to near 30, with middle 20s possible along HWY 278. Expect a thick frost at sunrise Saturday morning.

We’ll start the day off with some sun, but clouds will rapidly increase through the day. Expect highs to reach into the upper 50s on Saturday, but I don’t expect any rain during the day. As a surface low forms to our west and moves just north of the area on Sunday, rain will quickly spread into the area during the day on Sunday. While I don’t expect it to rain all day on Sunday, there could be some rain at any point. Highs will reach the upper 50s on Sunday, with a few areas south of I-20 topping the 60 degree mark.

Colder air will then take over on Monday and Tuesday. We’ll only reach the middle 40s on Monday, with a slow decrease in clouds. Monday will be a raw winter day, with a breezy north wind. As winds go calm Monday night, a moderate freeze is expected. Lows will dip into the middle 20s along and south of I-20, with lower 20s in spots north of I-20.

Our next storm system will impact the area on Wednesday, with a soaking rain. It will be a chilly rain, but all indications are that it will be too warm for wintry weather with this feature. Another surge of cold air will move in on Thursday.
