Cooler Tomorrow… Late Weekend Rain… Thursday Forecast Update – 4:30pm #alwx

Warnings_965

Good Thursday afternoon! What a nice winter day across the state! Temperatures have warmed into the 60s area-wide this afternoon, with low 70s near and south of Tuscaloosa. With periods of sunshine and a southerly wind, temperatures were allowed to warm a bit this afternoon. A weak cold front is passing through Alabama now, and temperatures will start to fall in our area this evening and tonight. There’s a small chance of a quick shower this evening, but most areas will not get rain. Expect temperatures to fall into the middle 50s by 7pm, lower 50s at 10pm and 40s at midnight. Skies will remain mostly cloudy through midnight, with a decrease in clouds by sunrise.

Friday will feature cooler temperatures, but extreme cold air isn’t expected. Look for a good dose of sunshine on Friday, with a high in the low to mid 50s. Some areas north of I-20 could stay in the 40s all day. Expect lows below freezing Friday night, with upper 20s to lower 30s. Widespread frost is expected Saturday morning.

Clouds will quickly increase on Saturday as another storm system moves towards Alabama. I expect Saturday to remain dry, but rain will move in on Sunday. As a surface low tracks over north Alabama on Sunday, rain will move across the state, but I don’t expect rain non-stop from daylight to dark. Rain will be possible at any time during the day, so keep the umbrella handy. Highs will approach 60 on Sunday, especially south of I-20. Colder air will move in Sunday night, but the rain should be out of here before any frozen precip would become possible. Monday will feature much colder air, with highs in the 40s and lows in the upper 20s Monday night.

Another storm system will move into the area on Wednesday. Clouds will increase on Tuesday, with a high near 50. Rain is likely at times on Wednesday, with a soaking expected. Wintry weather is not expected, as temperatures will remain well above freezing. Even colder air will likely take over late next week…
