Strong Storms Rolling Through… 2am Radar Update Friday… #alwx

123

Good early Friday morning! We’re watching a line of storms move into western Alabama early this morning. As of 2am, the main line was lined up from Hamilton to Vernon to Columbus to Starkville and pushing east at 45mph. There’s a new line developing over western Alabama, about 40 to 65 miles ahead of the main line.

So far so good… there are no active watches or warnings for our area. We have noticed a weakening trend with the line as advertised in the forecast, so most areas will get through tonight with nothing more than some rain and thunder. There’s still a chance some storms could produce strong winds, enough to bring a couple of trees down early this morning. Again, this will only occur in isolated spots, with the best chance of that happening near and north of I-20. There’s lots of fuel for the showers and storms, with very high moisture levels and a decent amount of instability. This will cause storms to produce very heavy rain for short period of time.

The storms will gradually end this morning from west to east; in-fact, for west Alabama, most of your Friday will be dry, other than this early morning mess. It will be closer to the midday hours before the rain ends in far east Alabama. Some models hint at a second batch of a few scattered showers or storms along the main front this afternoon, but I don’t expect that to amount to much. By that point, the best shear and energy will be well north of Alabama; plus, the morning round will do a number on the atmosphere and make it harder for additional organized storms.

I’ll be here watching the storms as they pass through incase anything gets out of hand across our area.
