Soggy Sunday… Saturday Forecast Update — 7pm

Sevenday_640

Good Saturday evening! Today has been quite warm, with a fair amount of sunshine, and some extra moisture ahead of the rain tomorrow, things felt a bit humid out there this afternoon.

The clouds will increase from the south throughout the rest of the evening, into the overnight hours. The rain that is currently just offshore in South Alabama will work north tonight. I would anticipate that by daybreak we will see those showers moving into Central Alabama. The latest indications are for the main center of the rainfall to be between Birmingham, Montgomery, and Atlanta, GA. Within that triangle, nearly 2 inches could fall. Areas further west will see amounts closer to an 1″, and the further north toward Huntsville, total rainfall amounts drop to near 0.5″. These totals are for the rainfall over the next 48 hours, which means the rain and cloud cover will remain with us from Saturday night through Monday afternoon. Temperatures will be cooler for our day on Sunday in the upper 70s thanks to the clouds and rain.

As the rain tapers off Monday afternoon, temperatures will warm into the low 80s with the possibility of a few peeks of sunshine. Tuesday through Thursday look mainly dry with temperatures slightly above average for late September-early October in the mid 80s. Lows each night will be in the lower 60s.

Another cold front is trying to make an appearance next Friday, bringing with it another round of cooler and drier air. If all holds relatively true to what the models are indicating now, we could see some sunshine and cool air across the deep South Saturday afternoon and evening. The potential for lows back into the 50s is plausible for Saturday night into Sunday. The cold front would swing through just in time for great tailgating and football weather for Alabama as they play Ole Miss in Oxford, MS.

The Tropics remain quiet as we pass from the peak hurricane season into the waning months of hurricane activity in the Atlantic.
