Hot Days… Scattered Storms… Friday Forecast Update – 4:30pm

Sevenday_640

Good Friday afternoon! It’s a hot day for the final day of Spring, with temperatures in the lower to middle 90s. As of 4pm, heat index values were between 96 and 100 across west and central Alabama. Most of the area is dry this afternoon and will remain mainly dry through 8pm. The risk of scattered showers and storms is rather low today, and all storms will die out after we lose the daytime heating this evening. Temperatures will fall into the lower 70s tonight.

The first day of Summer will officially kick in on Saturday. Conditions will really feel like summer tomorrow, with highs in the lower 90s. There is a decent chance of scattered, mainly afternoon storms. The risk of rain is at 40% on Saturday, but some slightly drier air will move in on Sunday. The risk of rain will drop to 20% on Sunday, but I can’t rule out a lone afternoon storm, especially over southwest Alabama.

The risk of rain will increase early next week, as the upper air ridge weakens some. With tons of moisture and hot temperatures, it won’t be hard to get scattered storms to fire up on Monday through Friday, with the daytime heating process. There’s a good chance you’ll get storms in your area each afternoon for most of next week, but storms will remain scattered. The best chance of getting a storm in your area will occur between noon and 9pm Monday through Friday. The risk of rain is at 50%, but I don’t expect an all day rain or everyone to get a soaking. Highs will top out in the lower 90s.

The tropics remain quiet at this time, but we will be watching the tropics close, as we move deeper into the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
