Storms on Friday… Humid Weekend… Thursday Forecast Update – 4:40pm

Good Thursday afternoon! It has been another very warm day across Alabama, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s. As of 4pm, much of west and central Alabama is in the middle to upper 80s. Temperatures will slowly cool off this evening, with temperatures in the 70s at 10pm and upper 60s by midnight. As moisture continues to advect into the area from the south, a little fog is possible tonight and early on Friday.

A weakening cold will reach west Alabama Friday evening, with a good chance of storms occurring ahead of the front. We can expect numerous showers and storms to fire up over Alabama Friday afternoon and evening, with some locally heavy rain possible. Rain won’t last all day or night, but keep in mind, there is a risk of rain through Friday night. Most models agree that the weekend isn’t going to be a washout, but understand, showers and storms are possible both Saturday and Sunday. Rain chances stand at 40% on Saturday and 30% on Sunday. If you have plans for Mother’s Day, have the umbrella handy. Any storms that develop on Sunday won’t last long and will be isolated. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will reach the lower 80s. With a high dewpoint, conditions will feel tropical this weekend…

A few afternoon storms are possible on Monday, but most areas will remain dry. A second cold front will push through Alabama on Tuesday or Wednesday, with an increased rain chance. Models are still iffy on the timing of the cold front, so I’ve got a rain chance for both days. There is a chance rain could move in on Tuesday, then Wednesday would feature dry and nice conditions. It just depends on the timing of the cold front… Temperatures will drop a bit on Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the 70s and lows in the lower to middle 50s.
