Mild Weather Continues…Storms Late Thursday Night… – 4:50pm Update

Good Tuesday afternoon! As of 4:45pm, a couple of showers have developed across west and central Alabama, but the risk of rain at your house is very low. You may notice a quick downpour between now and 7pm, then the risk of a quick shower will end after sunset. Temperatures are very warm this afternoon, and temperatures will drop into the middle 60s late tonight for lows. Conditions will remain very humid through t0night, Wednesday and Thursday…

After sunrise Wednesday morning, temperaturse will return into the 80s; in-fact, I wouldn’t be shocked if a spot or two across Alabama reaches the 90 degree mark. The official forecasted high for Wednesday is at 87. Much like today, a passing shower or storm will become possible after lunch. Most spots will remain rain free through Thursday. An upper air ridge over Alabama will keep a cap on the atmosphere on Wednesday and Thursday, so the chance of rain looks pretty low. The ridge will break down a bit late Thursday and Thursday night, which will allow for some fast changes in the forecast Thursday night and Friday morning.

The main upper air trough will move into Alabama on Friday. A cold front will develop ahead of the trough and will move through Alabama sometime late Thursday night. Look for a thin squall line to move through west and central Alabama sometime late Thursday night or early Friday morning. At this time, I don’t expect a major severe weather risk across our area, but an isolated severe storm is possible along the line. The chance of tornadoes is pretty low. This being said, we need to watch our Thursday night/Friday morning system close incase of any sudden changes. Since instability is forecasted to remain very low and the best dynamics will remain north of Alabama, this should keep us safe from a big event…

The weekend forecast is looking great just in time for A-Day on Saturday in Tuscaloosa. If you’re going to Bryant-Denny for the game, the weather will remain nice. Temperatures will start off in the 40s early Saturday morning and reach the upper 60s by Saturday afternoon. We’ll enjoy lots of sun on Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will gradually rebound into the 70s on Sunday.
