Great Weekend Weather…Storms Next Week… Friday Forecast Update – 4:45pm

Sevenday_640

After a cloudy start to our Friday, the weather turned out very nice this afternoon. As of 4pm, much of west and central Alabama is reporting temperatures in the upper 60s. A few 70 degree spots are possible in west Alabama before temperatures start cooling after sunset. With a clear sky and dry airmass in place tonight, temperatures will drop fast tonight. Most spots will fall into the lower 40s tonight. There is no risk of a frost across our area tonight. As the upper air trough moves east of Alabama on Saturday and Sunday, a nice warming trend will take over. Look for highs to reach the upper 70s on Saturday and Sunday, with a sunny sky.

There is no risk of rain over the weekend, with a surface high right over our area. Lows  will modify into the lower 50s by Sunday morning and mid to upper 50s Sunday night and Monday night. As a surface high moves east of Alabama on Monday and Tuesday, you’ll notice an increase in moisture and clouds. While we’ll still notice lots of sun on Monday and Tuesday, a few clouds will pass by from time to time. I don’t expect any rain through Tuesday.

A storm system west of Alabama could produce a major tornado outbreak across the Plains on Tuesday. That same system should weaken before reaching Alabama on Wednesday or Thursday. We may deal with some severe weather around here on Wednesday or on Thursday, but model data is still changing. At this point, it looks unlikely that we’ll have a big severe weather event around here, but we need to watch this close. Any change in the track of the surface low may mean for a big change in our forecast. We’ll keep an eye on it…

The beach forecast over the weekend will look great! Highs will reach the lower 70s on Saturday and Sunday, with lows in the 50s. There is no chance of rain along the Alabama Gulf Coast this weekend.
