Rain Continues… Dry and Mild Weekend! Wednesday Afternoon Forecast Update – 3:45pm

Good Wednesday afternoon! After such a nice weather day yesterday, Alabama’s weather has changed again today. Much of central and west Alabama is dealing with light to moderate rain, as uplift from an upper air trough moves in. A surface low developing over the northern Gulf will help to spread moisture into the cool air over our part of the world through Thursday. With rain at times and cloudy skies, temperatures have held into the 50s all day, some upper 40s are being reported north of I-20 as of 3pm.

The weather won’t change much at all through tonight and tomorrow, with cool temperatures and rainy weather. Rain will continue on and off through tonight and Thursday and Thursday night before coming to an end early Friday morning. Highs will reach the upper 50s on Thursday.

As the upper air trough moves east, a ridge will build in from the west. A ridge is associated with warmer air, so temperatures will modify quickly through the weekend. Highs will reach the upper 60s on Friday, with an increase in sun through the day. Skies remain sunny through the weekend, with highs in the upper 70s. I wouldn’t be shocked if a few spots hit 80 over the weekend. Lows will modify into the 50s over the weekend.

As a south flow develops early next week, you’ll notice a few clouds moving into the area on Monday and Tuesday. At this point, I don’t expect rain to start off the week, but a strong storm system will move into Alabama by mid-week, with a good chance of storms on Wednesday and Thursday. At this time, it’s too early to tell if we will have severe weather issues. With instability in place, we will have to keep an eye on this system in the days ahead.

The beach forecast is looking great for the weekend, with a good supply of sun and mild temperatures. Highs will reach the 70s along Alabama’s Gulf Coast on Saturday and Sunday.
