Sunny and Warmer Weekend…Friday Afternoon Forecast Discussion – 5pm Update

Good Friday afternoon! After the snowy day yesterday and travel issues yesterday, lastnight and this morning, everything is back to normal this afternoon. Temperatures actually warmed more than expected today, with a high in the middle 50s. I haven’t heard many complaints about slightly warmer temperatures. Most of you are more than happy to deal with temperatures in the 50s and sunny skies. The forecast is looking much different through the weekend, with full sunshine and warmer temperatures.

Tonight will get chilly again, with lows in the upper 20s. I wouldn’t be shocked if some areas fall into the middle 20s north of Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. Skies remain clear tonight and sunny on Saturday and Sunday, as a surface high moves in from the west. We will reach the upper 50s for highs on Saturday and upper 50s to lower 60s on Sunday. The weekend is looking great in terms of January weather.

Some changes will occur to end the weekend and start next week, as a strong cold front moves in from the north. The cold front will reach north Alabama Sunday evening and south Alabama Sunday night. Look for the front to reach Alabama in a dry form due to limited surface moisture. Temperatures will drop into the upper 20s Sunday night, with an afternoon high near 50 on Monday. Lows will drop into the lower 20s Monday night and Tuesday night, as we deal with a very hard freeze. Some of the cooler locations to the north of Tuscaloosa may reach the upper teens.

A slow warming trend takes over by late next week, with highs in the 60s on Thursday and Friday.
