Very Mild Weather, With Rain At Times… Wednesday Forecast Discussion – 5pm

Good Wednesday afternoon to you! Much of west and central Alabama picked up some rain at times this morning, but a break in the activity has been noticed this afternoon across parts of the area. While rain has been falling heavily north of Tuscaloosa and Birmingham all morning and early afternoon, areas south of I-20 are dealing with mostly dry weather at this hour. Some light showers and sprinkles are possible through tonight for all of west and central Alabama, but the heavier rain will remain north of I-20 through tonight. The bottom line… keep the rain gear handy through this evening and tonight, incase a shower or storm moves over your area.

Rain chances will remain high through Thursday and much of Friday, due to a very slow moving storm system and approaching cold front. The risk of severe weather is very low; in-fact, I don’t expect severe weather issues at all with this event. While temperatures will become very warm through Thursday and Friday, the atmosphere won’t be setup for severe weather. The weak cold front will move into Alabama Thursday night and early Friday. As the front moves over us, the best chance of rain will also move over us. Rain totals may reach 1 inch in many areas between now and Friday.

The cold front will become stationary across central Alabama Friday night and Saturday morning. Rain will continue across our area at times through that time-frame. Again, I don’t expect severe weather issues… We’ll keep an eye on radar trends incase a strong storm develops. Look for skies to remain mostly cloudy through the weekend. Highs will reach the middle 70s on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures will remain well above average, with some records in jeopardy. If we see a little sun on Saturday, temperatures may approach the 80 degree mark!

The stationary front will gradually move north of Alabama on Saturday and Sunday. That will take the best chance of rain north of Alabama, but some showers and storms will remain possible through the weekend. It will be a little more isolated over the weekend, so events may be ok for the most part. Keep the rain gear handy through the weekend, but any shower and storm activity should be short lived on Saturday and Sunday.

A weak cold front will move in from the northwest on Monday and Tuesday. We can expect very heavy rain to move into Alabama on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday  There could be some flooding issues across Alabama early next week, so use caution if you live in a flood zone. Temperatures will remain mild through early next week.
