Rain Ahead… Another Warm Weekend… Monday Afternoon Forecast Discussion – 2:20 pm Update

Good Monday afternoon to you! What a nice day… All of Alabama is dealing with very mild temperatures and lots of sunshine today, but changes are likely as an upper air trough carves out across the upper midwest. The trough will be just strong enough to send a cold front into Alabama Tuesday evening or Tuesday night. We can expect a band of showers and storms to form ahead of the front sometime after lunch on Tuesday, with periods of rain and thunderstorms through Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, there is atleast one big event happening in west Alabama this evening. The West Alabama Christmas Parade will kickoff at 6:30 pm in downtown Tuscaloosa. We can expect perfect weather, with a mild evening. Temperatures will fall into the middle 60s during  the parade, with no risk of rain across the area. Lows will gradually cool into the lower 50s late tonight, but higher dewpoints will keep temperatures from getting cold.

Tuesday will feature a day with a gusty south wind and increasing clouds. Showers and storms will gradually slip in here from the west, with a good chance of rain late Tuesday evening or Tuesday night. Scattered storms will continue at times through Wednesday morning. Most of the rain will be out of here by lunch on Wednesday. We’ll notice a slightly cooler airmass move in during the midday to early afternoon hours on Wednesday. Temperatures will struggle to reach the middle 60s. Temperatures like that area still above the normal for early December.

We’ll go dry on Thursday, but skies will remain partly sunny. A southwest flow aloft will keep things unsettled and mild through the weekend. While there’s no trigger for rain Friday through the weekend, I can’t rule out a stray shower or storm. Dewpoints will really climb over the weekend, giving us another mild Saturday and Sunday. Lows at night will warm into the lower or middle 50s. Look for partly sunny skies over the weekend.

We will be watching a storm system with great interest that’s set to arrive early next week. Some models are really hammering down a severe weather look on Monday or Tuesday. It’s one to watch close since we’re in the middle of our Fall severe weather season. It’s too early to be specific at this point, but we’ll continue to keep an eye on things. Remember, we’ve had a very quiet start to the fall tornado season so far. That doesn’t mean things will remain quiet though, so it’s a good idea to stay alert through December for any severe weather issues. There’s also signs of a cold snap later in the month.
