Warm Temps, Then Cooler… Friday Update 4:30pm update

Good Friday afternoon to you! After a very nice day, conditions will remain pretty comfortable through the rest of the evening across west and central Alabama. Conditions will remain rain free through the evening hours, so don’t expect any weather issues for the local high school football games. Temperatures will fall into the lower 60s by 7pm and lower 50s by 10am. Skies will remain clear tonight and sunny on Saturday.

Don’t forget we end Daylight Savings Time Saturday night, so set that clock back 1 hour before you go to bed. The official time change is at 2am Sunday morning. Atleast we all get an extra hour of sleep. This is also a good time to make sure your smoke or carbon monoxide detectors are working correctly

The upper air trough that brought the chilly weather earlier this week is clearly gone now. Temperatures reached the 80 degree mark this afternoon across much of west and central Alabama. Look for some weather changes as the weekend progresses due to a weak upper air trough and cold front making an arrival. The front will bring west Alabama during the afternoon hours on Sunday, which will bring the risk of scattered showers and a thunderstorm or two. Rain chances stand at 40% on Sunday. As the cold front stalls along the Gulf Coast, an upper air disturbance will move in from the northwest on Monday and Tuesday. The disturbance will spark off the development of a surface low across the northern Gulf of Mexico. At this point, the surface low looks to be close enough and strong enough to spark off a few showers on Monday and Tuesday across west and central Alabama, but the best chance of rain should stay east and south of our area.

Cooler weather will spread in on Monday and Tuesday, with highs in the lower to middle 60s. There is a low rain chance leading into Election Day on Tuesday, so you may need the umbrella. It will not rain all day…

The upper air trough will gradually move out and a warming trend will move in by the end of next week. Look for a good supply of sunshine on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Highs will reach the middle 60s on Wednesday and upper 60s on Thursday. Lower 70s are back by Friday afternoon. Temperatures will remain pretty chilly at night, with lows in the upper 30s Tuesday night and Wednesday night.

If you’re going to the Alabama/LSU game on Saturday, expect a partly cloudy sky and the risk of a passing shower or storm. The chance of rain at this point looks rather low for the game. Temperatures will fall into the 60s. Kickoff in Baton Rouge is set for 7pm.
