Lots of Rain Today With Isolated Tornadoes… Thursday Morning Update 9am

Good Thursday morning. As Isaac moves north, the eastern bands are finally reaching our area. Shear is also increasing across western Alabama, and isolated tornadoes are possible at any time today. Stay alert. Tornadoes that develop should be short lived and small. They can pop up very sudden, so have a plan ready to go. Much of southwest Alabama is under a tornado watch until 4pm. For now, the watch includes areas southwest of Tuscaloosa, but that may be shifted north this afternoon as instability increases.
Other than the isolated tornado threat today, heavy rain will fall across much of the area, but the heavier rain will occur in western Alabama. You’ll need the rain gear handy all day today. Sure looks like many of us will get a heavy soaking on and off for much of the day. Don’t expect much lightning and thunder; in-fact, large showers may produce small tornadoes today.
Storms will continue at times through Friday, but the chance of tornadoes should die out sometime tonight.
