Watching New Tropical System Develop…Tropical Update Monday 2pm

Good Monday afternoon to you! We’re watching a little tropical action in the central Atlantic. A weak area of low pressure is gradually becoming a little better organized as it tracks west at 10 to 20 mph. For now, it’s well out in the central Atlantic and days out from impacting land. We will keep an eye on it because some data does continue its westward track; in-fact, some data brings it towards the southeast US Coastline in 10 days or so. Will it grow into the next named storm or a hurricane? It’s still too early to tell, but it’s worth watching close in the coming days. If things change, I’ll let you know about it on air, on facebook/twitter and right here on our weather blog.

Above is the plot of tropical models, showing the direction. Most data moves it into the Caribbean in about 5 days, with a gradual bend to the northwest with time. It’s still too early to tell if it will turn out to sea before reaching the US or if it will develop at all. This system is still in its developmental stage. Many of the tropical models develop it into a tropical storm in 48 hours. While the chance of that is low, it’s not out of the question. Stay tuned for updates.
